Kota is a part of the southeastern region of Rajasthan, known as Hadoti. Rao Deva, Hada chief, founded Bundi and Hadoti in the 12th century. Later Mughal Emperor Shahjahan, in the early 17th century AD, made Madho Singh, the son of Rao Ratan of Bundi, the ruler of Kota. Thus, Kota received the status of an independent state. Since that time, Kota has been a witness of the Rajput valor, culture and traditions.

Situated near the river Chambal, Chambal garden serves as a popular picnic spot. The garden is nearby Amar Niwas Palace and presents a picturesque sight. One can even go for boating in the Chambal River.
Darrah Wildlife Sanctuary

The 250 Sq.Km. Darrah wildlife sanctuary is located about 50 Km. from Kota. Here there are spotted deers, Wild boars, Bears ,Sambhars , Leopards , Panthers and Antelopes.The sanctuary is sometimes closed during the monsoon (usually from early july to mid -september ).

Housed in the Brijvilas Palace, the Government museum exhibits an array of rare coins, manuscripts, sections of Hadoti sculpture, etc. The most remarkable item on display is a sculpted statue brought here from Baroli, famous for its beauty and the history attached to it.
Kota Barrage

A part of the irrigation canal system on the Chambal River, this beautiful setting is ideal for outings and evening strolls. Other Places worth visiting: Kansua temple with a four faced Shiva Lingam, Bhitria Kund, Adhar Shila Budh Singh Bafna Haveli and Yatayat Park. not only does this barrage control floodwater and irrigate canals, it also serves as an alternative bridge in the monsoon season.

Maharao Madho Singh museum is situated in the old palace. The museum has on display a rich collection of Rajput miniature paintings (Kota school), sculptures, murals, arms, etc. Also exhibited are some artistic items used by the former rulers of Kota.

Rana Pratap Sagar Dam
Rana Pratap Sagar dam is the second in the series of Chambal Valley Projects, located 52 km downstream of Gandhi Sagar dam across the river Chambal in Rajasthan. This dam was completed in the year 1970. Bhainsrodhgarh has a 14th century fort which was never besieged by an enemy force. Perched on a ridge overlooking the Chambal River , it is still occupied by the descendents of a feudal family. A prior permission is needed to visit the fort.
